Synopsis

In 1945, as World War Two wound down in Europe, Heinrich Himmler organized the Werewolves, a group of Nazi fanatics who terrorized anyone who dared to cooperate with the victorious allied armies. Early in the second decade of the new millennium, as bad economic conditions worsened into anarchy, a well-funded group of fascists in the United States created a similar group, dedicated to the destruction of civil liberties and the undermining of the elected government. Sooner or later, they reasoned, a totalitarian regime would take the place of helpless, democratically created institutions and elected officials. Tony Stone, a wounded veteran of the war in the middle-east, is selected to infiltrate the Werewolves. With the help of his friends, fellow veterans Charlie and Will, and the backing of a group dedicated to countering the powerful fascist organization, Tony moves into this dark underworld, determined to find out who is in charge of the Werewolves and, somehow, to destroy them. Meanwhile-in his spare time-he tries to manage relationships with Cassandra Bascombe, wife of a wealthy drunk, and Jane Wayland, a young woman to whom he gives tennis lessons.
