Synopsis

Supply Chain Management is an intensively discussed topic within industrial and business management. A technique that is increasingly gaining importance is the Supply Chain Operations Reference Model (SCOR model) by the Supply-Chain Council (www.supply-chain.org). Despite the popularity of the SCOR model, there exists a dearth of scientific research into its applicability. This book is the first exploratory examination and systematic presentation of the scientific applicability of the SCOR model by a PhD and seasoned SAP executive who brings to the task a wealth of knowledge and industry relevant materials and perspectives. "This book offers an explorative and interim result towards the scientific research into the SCOR model and its application. The author has benefited from his extensive experience in the practice of consultation and his ability to call upon the use of relevant data and material." - Prof. Dr. Dietrich Seibt, University of Cologne, Germany

From the Back Cover

For some time now, Supply Chain Management has been an intensively discussed topic within the science of industrial and business management, as well as in company practice. The SCOR-model is in the process of developing itself into a De facto-Standard for the description and analysis of the Supply Chain. However, up until now, (as at: mid 2007), no scientific studies are available that have examined the validity of the SCOR-model and its structure.

In the work at hand, an attempt is undertaken to submit an exploratory contribution to the scientific examination of the model. For this purpose, the Supply Chain and Supply Chain Management are first to be explained as a frame of reference, and building upon this the SCOR-model are then introduced. In conjunction with this, practical examples for the model's application will be dealt with in detail. Within the framework of the empirical examination, data from more than 70 companies from North America, Europe and Asia, collected as part of company consultancy projects upon the basis of a quantitative questionnaire, is objectively evaluated and interpreted by means of statistical methods.

The accumulated knowledge serves on the one hand to extricate recommendations for improvements to the SCOR-model. On the other hand however, it is also applied in order to emphasize the present limitations to the model and to highlight further going development and application possibilities. Finally, it has the objective of providing incentives for further leading research into the model.
