Humor is revelatory apposition. When disparate objects or ideas are placed in apposition or propinquity, they, to the open eye, reveal new aspects and meanings, resulting in that "aha!" experience, or to those slightly more constrained, an amused chortle. An amused chortle to a humorist is like kibbles and bits to a pet dog, but to a serious scholar of la condition humaine it is like a full bottle of merlot in an AA meeting. There is fortunately for everyone's sanity that rare breed who rises above the pedantic and sees humor even in the quotidian, and especially in the trying mundane. This volume is the birthchild of such a breed, a trained social scientist who in his first book, Fairfield County: The Lighter Side, espied a subculture no one had yet studied with tongue in cheek, and pen in a few other places.
