As Australia's Chief Scientist, our country turned to Alan Finkel for advice on everything from climate change to artificial intelligence, to the pandemic. But at a time when scientists have never been so important, Alan nearly didn't become one at all! Growing up in Melbourne as the son of immigrants who fled the Holocaust and desperately wanted Alan to become a doctor, he had to find the courage to make his own choices - becoming an engineer, neuroscientist, academic, entrepreneur, philanthropist and a clear-thinking leader.

About the Author
Kim Doherty is a journalist, writer, and teacher, and a mum to two young children whom she hopes will be inspired by Alan's story.Kim has been editor-in-chief of some of Australia's best-loved mastheads, from the Australian Women's Weekly to Kidspot, and is passionate about the importance of lifelong learning: she's hoping to complete her latest educational endeavour, a Master of Laws, sometime before the end of the century.

His career is defined by creative leadership, initiatives, philanthropy and innovative scientific publishing.
