Working on the philosophy that knowledge is power, Pauline became very powerful. Pauline's new reality was that she was living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). One day she turned the radio on and heard the words "you need to help people," followed by a silence, as if for emphasis. The reception dropped out momentarily, long enough for the message to resonate clearly. Whatever the reason for this message, she got it! She had already been planning her return to the workforce after a 7-year hiatus. She was finally ready, having accepted her restrictions and adjusting to her new lifestyle. She had loved recruiting but felt it was time for a change of direction, so her sights were set on becoming a Case Manager for long-term unemployed clients. Following the process that is outlined in the Eight Essential Elements to Employment, she applied for the first suitable role she saw advertised. It became apparent during the conversations with the employer that this was not the environment she was seeking. The interview then became part of her research for the next role. It gave her ideas on how to select and apply for the right job and so she adjusted her search target and rejoined the market. The second job she applied for (after a 7-year break and in a new field) was hers! She thoroughly enjoyed this job but in 2013, no longer able to work full-time in a demanding and high-stress environment, she set up her own business: Pauline Visser Employment Coaching. The joys of technology allowed her to work from anywhere and be flexible enough to work only in times of peak energy and clarity and be kind to herself when her body required it. This style of business became her new reality. It was during this period that she had the opportunity to participate in a Writer's Retreat run by Jo Johnson - The Content Coach. This is when she finally realised that the information that was spinning around in her head, that had taken her many years to gather, was actually highly valuable and could benefit others if packaged correctly. Jo effortlessly condensed the information Pauline provided her with and made sense of it. "Yes," she said, as she drew a diagram of Pauline's business taking shape before her. "You can definitely build a solid business from your ideas and experience; you just need to focus them, refine the offerings, and be absolutely clear about who you can help." The result was a description of her three perfect clients and an awakening in her of how valuable the information she held inside was for others. Eight Essential Elements to Employment is the result. This book is one of the tools of Pauline's business and represents an outpouring of the knowledge, learnings, experiences and wisdom gained over the preceding thirty years of her career. Together with the know-how of experts in her network, she offers you everything you need to know to be well ahead of your competition in the employment game.
