Synopsis

Frank Korbl has led a remarkable life. Growing up in Vienna during the turbulent post-World War I period, Frank has witnessed incredible events. Drafted into the Luftwaffe, Frank served as a radio signaller during World War II. At the war's end, Frank worked with the British occupation forces, and it is here that he developed a taste for distant shores. He left his homeland in the '50s and arrived at Bonegilla, the infamous Australian immigration camp. In his quest to understand what it means to be Australian, Frank has seen and done many things, from working in the stock market to picking fruit on remote plantations. Frank eventually returned to his first calling, the air force. He saw active duty with the RAAF in Vietnam, and his hard work and dedication earned him the MBE. Frank's insights into immigration and what it takes to succeed are still as pertinent in today's environment as they were back then. Frank is now 84 years old, and lives in Melbourne with his wife, Stella.
