Synopsis

Back of Beyond.                                                                                                                                          Social work manager, Hughie MacDonald, runs off to his childhood hometown in rural Argyll where he accepts a basic grade post – anything to avoid what he’s been through. His plan to recover, and maybe even find love, falls apart as he is drawn into the troubling case of a small neglected boy, Tommy. Enquiries lead Hughie into the towns underbelly of indifference, seedy landlords, Teflon-coated bosses and small-time hash dealers. Overwhelmed, the nightmare he ran from begins to seep back into his mind. Hughie has always looked for redemption through the rescue of the fallen, but what is growing within him has darker motives – ones that could take him closer to a straight-jacket than the truth.                                                                                                                         Beyond the truth - beyond sanity. Contemporary fiction, social realism, noir, off-beat crime, gritty romance and black humour all in one weird journey of a novel.

I could not put this book down. It had me in its grip from the first page! I experienced a real mix of emotions as the plot twisted and turned and I thoroughly enjoyed the dry humour. Looking forward to the author's next publication. I would 100% recommend this book.

Book full of descriptive writing, humour and a twist I didn't see coming. So much more than your average book about social work issues. Avidly waiting on the sequel.

Great read, couldn’t put it down.

Well written. Found the dark sense of humour rather funny and the story line was intriguing showing a different perspective of a burnt out social worker.

Would highly recommend!

A superb story; so realistic it reads like an autobiography

Living in Argyll, I was intrigued. What a brilliant story. It has everything; a complex meandering plot, realistic levels of sex and violence and a serious come-upance for the villain. So realistic that it reads like an autobiography.
