Synopsis

Written by one of the Care Quality Commission’s most experienced regulators, this unique workbook guides care staff through a process of evaluating strengths and weaknesses, identifying barriers to good care, and becoming more reflective practitioners.

Like all Towards Outstanding titles, the workbook is built on the premise that reflection is a critical tool for driving improvement. Reflection supports people to continually improve the way they work and the care they provide, and it allows for mistakes to be accepted and analysed rather than repeated. Specifically designed for staff working across health and social care, the workbook guides users to reflect on experiences, focus their thoughts, generate new ideas about what good practice looks like, and understand the impact of their actions on others. Terri Salt stresses that through careful reflection everyone in a service can make a difference – and only when all members of staff do so can services move beyond the ordinary and start to become genuinely ‘Outstanding’.
