"The Five Scrolls" is a translation from Hebrew to Scots of five Old Testament books : the Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes and Esther, by Hugh S. Pyper. A native of Edinburgh now living in Orkney, Hugh Pyper is Emeritus Professor of Biblical Interpretation at the University of Sheffield and a former President of the Society for Old Testament Studies. In addition to his academic writing, he has translated poems by Fernando Pessoa, Gottfried Keller and others into Scots.
