Rosemary Coates studied at the Ruskin School of Fine Art and Drawing, Oxford University. Famous for her paintings of domestic animals, her maps of UK racecourses and hunting countries, she lives in Northamptonshire.

Ringer or Dead RingerAn identical horse that has been switched for another (this is part of a betting scam). Once all-too commonplace, it is harder to do these days as horses now require passports to enter a race, which are held for the duration of the race meeting by the Clerk of the Course. In America racehorses all have a lip tattoo with an identification number to prevent the use of Ringers.
