Today Adua is a grown woman and she has lived in Rome since she was eighteen. She is an old Lira: a woman who reached Italy during the first wave of immigration in the Seventies. She recently married a young Titanic, an immigrant who got off the boat at Lampedusa, and contemplates going back to Somalia after the civil war ends. Once alone, Adua tells her story to the elephant statue that supports the obelisk in Santa Maria square, above Minerva: her father Zoppe, last descendant of a family of fortune- tellers, worked as an interpreter during the regime and in the Thirties he will involuntarily barter his freedom with the one of his people. Adua, who ran away from her strict father and the communist dictatorship, finds herself in Rome, dreaming of making it in the movie industry. Unfortunately, the only movie she will star in, a soft porn called Somali Female, will only bring her humiliation and shame. Only now does Adua feel she is ready to take her life in her own hands
