Synopsis

The Seafarer is based on a celebrated and extremely well received limited edition and large format book. The success of this edition has spurned Sylph Editions to create a book more accessible to the public. This new translation by Amy Riach is based on her deep understanding of both the Germanic and the Latin origins of English that governs her inspired and timely translation. In the year 2000, Artist Jila Peacock and composer Sally Beamish collaborated on a multimedia Piano Trio based on the poem, which premiered at the Alderton Music festival in Suffolk (the piece went on to become the basis for Beamishs second viola concerto, The Seafarer in 2002).
