A WW2 spy thriller. It is 1943. Kurt Muller and a young colleague parachute into southern Germany to rescue a British-Canadian agent. The Allies have won the battle of the Atlantic, and German forces are retreating on all major fronts. The war in Europe is effectively over, but the Nazis will never accept defeat. An Abwehr deserter and member of the German resistance -- the Black Orchestra -- with a price on his head, Kurt quickly finds himself in a deadly race to prevent the Nazis from developing the first atomic bomb and changing the outcome of the Second World War. What readers are saying about the book: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was hooked by the first book in this series and found the second book even better. I usually do not read spy thrillers, but the protagonist being a German national in Germany during the war drew my attention. I will be looking forward to his next book. The plot was fast moving and the characters easy to identify with. I really enjoyed this book, it's the sequel to The Black Orchestra, another good book. It's about a young German in the time of Hitler and as the war goes on, he sees more and more that he disagrees with. He joins a resistance group and does his best to change the tide. I gave this five stars, would have given more if I could as it's a thoroughly riveting read. This is just as good as the first novel "The Black Orchestra" it has many twists and turns it seems like Kurt is moving from one crisis to another without getting caught he's one step away from death using the SS against the Gestapo. I liked it as much as I did the first one the author keeps the pace moving.

A very good, fast paced storyline and an excellent follow up to his first book. I look forward to the next installment
Having read all of Toner’s novels, I would say Wings of an Eagle is his best effort to date. The novel has the twists and ploys of a Robert Ludlum thriller and is more gripping than anything Lee Child has yet produced.
I enjoyed this book, different from the normal spy story, but it kept my interest until the end. I would recommend this book without hesitation to other readers.
I read another JJ Toner novel, Black Orchestra, which I enjoyed so downloaded another in the same series. I found it a bit of a page turner, Nicely written with just the right amount of detail and description. Plausible plot and happy ending. Light hearted and easy to read.
I loved this book. Kept me reading, no let up in the action. Great plot and excellent ending. Highly recommended.
