About the Author
Born in the cotton mill town of Blackburn, Alan Counsell's birth was so difficult that his brain was starved of oxygen, causing Cerebral Palsy and consequent brain damage. His parents were told that he would never walk, talk, be educable and would not live beyond the age of ten. His childhood consisted of a combination of extreme kindness and support from his family and ridicule, isolation and dramas from educational and medical authorities and society in general. What they failed to realise was that although his brain was damaged there was nothing wrong with his intellect but Alan had a long, lonesome fight to prove this. With parents who combated all of the negatives from authorities and professionals, epitomised by his father's down to earth philosophy of 'We'll Show The Buggers!', Alan set out to prove his father's words true.
