Synopsis
In this book, originally published in 1937, the acclaimed writer and engraver Clare Leighton takes us on a tour of her favourite country subjects, from picking primroses and the local pub, to tramps and the flower show. With her senses perfectly attuned to her part of southern England in the Chiltern hills, Leighton gently explores rural culture and landscapes with affectionate pen-portraits and her wonderful, bold engravings of people at work in the country.

About the Author
Clare Leighton (1898-1989) was an artist, illustrator and writer. She wrote many books on the subject of rural life, especially Buckinghamshire. She also created stained glass for churches in New England and for Worcester Cathedral. In the late 1940s she became a naturalised citizen of the United States.
