Synopsis

Jesus Moncada (1941-2005) was one of the key figures in Catalan literature at the end of the 20th centrury. His writing has been translated into more than twenty languages and won several literature prizes in Spain. In turn, he translated many novels into Catalan from other European languages. His first novel, published in English as The Towpath, is regarded as one of the finest examples of modern Catalan writing. His books range through 19th and 20th century Spanish history, including the Spanish Civil War. When the Rivers Meet is the first English language book length study of his writings, also including two new translations from his work. Moncada's work has been compared to that of Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
