Fran Pickering is a well-established author of a wide range of books for children, through fiction and non-fiction and across several age ranges. She also writes regular features for mainstream adult and children's publications in the UK. Initially, Fran trained and worked as a Nursery Nurse but life moved on and later she held a post-graduate post in Personnel Management for the John Lewis Partnership. Eventually though, Fran's natural talent for origination led her to become part of a Design Partnership and in that context she created 'Hotshot', a bi-monthly comic for the 7 to 11 age range. Hotshot was published in the UK and distributed to all Primary and Junior schools for about 12 years, for 6 of which Fran was Editor and main writer. During this time, Fran's aptitude for writing and 'silly things' got her into various comics and magazines and then into writing her own books. In 1988 she became a Creative Consultant to San Serif ( who marketed Trivial Pursuits) and worked for 3 years on product Research and Development, including devising the 'EastEnders Game' for the BBC and some of her own fun games for kids. In time she returned to her main love: children and all things connected with them, especially writing books for them to read! She now spends her days happily working as a full-time, free-lance writer, mainly for the children's book market. A place where the magic never dies.
