About the Authors

Michael Boxwell has been using electric cars on a regular basis for the past five years. He runs one of the largest electric car clubs in the world and provides consultancy services to a number of car manufacturers.

Michael is also a best-selling author, specialising in books on technology and the environment.

Michael is the best-selling author of books on eco-technology, including The Electric Car Guide series.

His father ran a garage and Michael caught his father's passion for fast and exciting cars from an early age. After working for a brief spell with his father, Michael worked in the IT industry whilst dabbling in motor-racing and owning a number of unusual vehicles, including a Pilgrim Bulldog kit car and a number of classic cars.

Michael's interest in electric vehicles started in the 1980s, initially when his father was looking to buy a milk float to act as a small delivery van and subsequently with the launch of the Sinclair C5: a tiny electric tricycle that excited a generation of young, impressionable teenagers whilst horrifying their parents.

After a brief spell as managing director of an electric bike retailer, Michael bought his first electric car in 2006 - a G-Wiz - and set up the G-Wiz Owners' Club, which today is one of the largest electric car clubs in the world. Since then, he has owned a pre-launch Mitsubishi i MiEV, a TATA Indica Vista EV, a number of electric bikes and a prototype electric van.

As well as writing, Michael works closely alongside a number of car manufacturers advising them on electric vehicle strategy.

Michael Boxwell is a car enthusiast. He has owned a number of rare and unusual vehicles over the years. These cars include a Pilgrim Bulldog, a 1963 Sunbeam Alpine Mk 3 GT, an ex-RAF 1940 Hartey Dingwell model 33 and most recently, a 1954 MG Magnette ZA.

He misspent his youth tinkering with cars and engines in his father's garage and driving racing cars around motor racing circuits.

Michael owns and uses electric vehicles himself on a daily basis. His current cars are a Mitsubishi i-MiEV, a G-Wiz and a prototype electric truck, with a TATA Indica Vista EV due to replace the Mitsubishi in early 2011. At time of writing, he also has a Nissan LEAF on order.

He has been an advocate for electric vehicles for many years. In the early 2000s he founded an electric bike retail business. This grew to become the largest independent electric bike retailer in the United Kingdom and was sold in 2005.

He purchased his first electric car in 2006 and founded the REVA/G-Wiz Electric Car Owners' Club the same year. The club is among the largest and most popular electric car owners' clubs in the world with over 1,000 members.

He has provided consultancy for a number of electric vehicle manufacturers and distributors and has travelled around the world visiting electric vehicle production lines and R&D departments.

He regularly speaks and writes about various aspects of electric vehicles and electric vehicle ownership and appears on television and radio talking about electric cars.
