About the Author

Alan Charlton is a freelance composer, writer, examiner and teacher. He holds a PhD in Composition from Bristol University and was the first Eileen Norris Fellow in Composition at Bedford School. A winner of many national and international awards for composition, performers of his music include The Lindsays and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. He was head of music technology at Bedford School for four years and is also an experienced Edexcel examiner and teacher of GCSE and A-level music He was written and contributed to many books and study guides on music and is a regular writer for Classroom Music magazine.
