About the Author

R. M. GIBSON was born into the twentieth century's great depression and was raised on a farm in north central Indiana. After high school, he served on a minesweeper during the Korean conflict and later graduated from Indiana University. It was 1955 and the start of his long professional career--one that began with his having worked for the California company that built the Apollo spacecraft. In the late sixties, he moved to suburban Connecticut and commuted into New York where he worked for companies in the oil, basic metals, and executive search businesses. In the mid-seventies, he settled in rural, central Massachusetts and spent several years in various roles within the real estate industry. A decade later, he relocated to south Texas and served as an officer in the state's largest privately held bank. He and his educator wife, Sandra, then emigrated to Europe and since 1986 have since lived in both Spain and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

PAUL LANIER was born in New York only months before the stock market crash in 1929. His father was the U.S. south; his mother came from England. He was raised in South Carolina, but before the end of WWII, he enlisted in the Army and served as a paratrooper. At war's end, he was schooled at Bryant College in Rhode Island, after which he moved back to New York, married, and moved with his new wife to Mexico. For a time, he wrote and she painted. By the mid-1950s, they'd moved to British Columbia where Paul became involved in Alcan's Kitimat smelter project. Later in his career, he joined American Standard in New York and served in their international department as a vice-president. Then before he shifted his focus, full time, to entrepreneurial ventures, he was part of the team that developed the reorganization plan for Federal Express.
