Synopsis

This book is packed full of black and white photographs of the 'Buxton Line' with accompanying text. Some diary extracts are included, along with plans, and pictures of tickets. Having reached Whaley Bridge to complete the first part of our journey between Stockport and Buxton, we invite the reader to continue into the Derbyshire Peak District by means of the other stations/locations en route, namely Chapel-en-le-Frith South and Dove Holes before taking an extended look at the 'Wessy' side of Buxton. Once again, the diaries and photographs of the late Wallace Sutherland predominate as they did in the first volume to illustrate one man's continuing passion to record the line in full. However, the Derbyshire town was in itself well-endowed with eminent railway photographers, and it is thought fitting that a small but comprehensive selection of their work should be included. Older members of the community in Buxton will recognise from photographs inside the front cover of this volume the faces of E. R. (Ray) Morten, Harry Townley and Leonard Hobdey. They worked systematically to pictorially record the railway history of Buxton and the greater Peak district region for over six decades.
