Synopsis
This book is beautifully illustrated and describes the activity of going to the dentist using 12 pictures in a sequence. This book is particularly aimed at pre-school children and children with special needs to support language development and communication. By using this book to prepare your child for going to the dentist, they will be happier and able to manage the experience. It is also helpful to use the book as a prompt to play dentist at home or in school. You can often borrow the gloves or some of the other bits the dentist uses in advance, so that you can help your child become more familiar with the feel and smell of what they will find when they visit the dentist. Routine and structure are really important for small children. Predictability always reduces anxiety and so the more children know about what to expect the easier they find things and usually the less tantrums they have. The Off We Go series of books provide a great, visual and easily understood, explanation of what to expect from a range of daily-life activities. These books will be helpful for any young child, not just those with special needs, to give them a better sense of what to expect and thereby reduce any anxiety.
