Synopsis

Resolution is the final book in The Reso trilogy, the first two being The Reso and Beyond the Reso.

Set in the 1980s this book brings, as the title would suggest, resolution to the character of David. He is now grown and against many odds is about to start his studies at university, the first in his family. He struggles to make sense of this strange new culture. The first two books brought many laughs alongside the more deeper moments and observations of the main character, as he tries to make sense of his life, and this book continues with this. David arrives at university full of hope, eagerness and promise.

The whole trilogy is a historic record of the 60s, 70s and 80s - a generation raised before I-pods and computer games. Resolution delivers a fascinating insight into the days when 'working-class' students had only began to enter the higher education world through their hard-earned academic merit. These were the last days of the golden age of rail, when trainspotters knew their beloved engines were on the verge of extinction and technology had only barely arrived in the classroom.

About the Author

Ambrose Conway is the pen name of David Hughes. He is a former secondary school teacher and educational consultant who has a particular passion for developing positive reading habits among teenage boys who are so often lost to fiction. He has taught in rural, suburban and inner-city schools and has successfully tested out many of the ideas for The Reso on his unsuspecting students.

He was fortunate to grow up in the old Welsh storytelling tradition and recalls the ancient tales of The Mabinogi read in school as well as the stories of hardship, poverty and joy recounted by his parents. Access to educational opportunity has been a decisive influence in his life and the inspiration for his books.

He is a regular contributor to the educational press with articles on e-learning, raising achievement, metacognition and inclusive learning among his credits. He has spoken at regional, national and international conferences on similar themes. In 2009 Ambrose was made a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts (FRSA) following a period on secondment to the RSA Academy in Tipton in the West Midlands. He is also a contributing author to Literature Wales (formerly the Welsh Academy).

Married, with two grown up children, the contrast between his children's upbringing and his own prompted the writing of The Reso trilogy as he found himself constantly comparing the quality of his own experiences of childhood with that of his own sons.
He divides his time between schools, military and industrial archaeology, infrequent flying, keeping on top of the garden, reminiscing about the past and worrying about the future.
