Synopsis
All-Weather racing started in Britain in October 1989, at Lingfield. Since then this new type of horseracing has grown in popularity, along with the quality of the racing. There are now five All-Weather tracks in the UK, at Wolverhampton, Lingfield, Southwell, Kempton and Great Leighs, Britain's newest racecourse, as well as at Dundalk in Ireland. Although the approach to winner finding on sand remains basically the same, the idiosyncrasies of the new surfaces need explaining. Form shown on the turf should be used sparingly in trying to predict the outcome of a race on sand. Written by acknowledged expert, known as 'The King of the Sand', Dave Bellingham has been studying racing on the All-Weather since its start, and has accumulated a wealth of data and statistics on how to find winners.
