Synopsis

This book contains contributions from academics, lawyers, and diplomats based on papers delivered at the Sixth and Seventh Conferences of the World Trade Law Association (WTLA) in London as well as specially commissioned chapters. The chapters of this book follow four broad themes: (1) the state of play in WTO negotiations and disputes; (2) defining the boundaries of the WTO; (3) the scope of WTO dispute settlement; and (4) the interface between regional trade agreements and the WTO.

About the Author

Andrew Mitchell is a Consultant to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Geneva, a Fellow of the Tim Fischer Centre for Global Trade & Finance at Bond University, and a Senior Fellow in the University of Melbourne Law School, where he teaches WTO trade remedies in the graduate programme. He is also a Doctoral Candidate in Law at the University of Cambridge as a WM Tapp Scholar of Gonville & Caius College and a Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholar. Andrew graduated from the University of Melbourne with First Class Honours in both his Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce degrees. He subsequently obtained a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School and completed the requirements for a Graduate Diploma in International Law from the University of Melbourne. Andrew was previously a Solicitor with Allens Arthur Robinson in Australia, and he worked briefly at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York. He has also worked in the Trade Directorate of the OECD, the Intellectual !
Property Division of the WTO, and the Legal Department of the IMF. During 2003–2004, Andrew was a Fellow at the Institute of International Economic Law at Georgetown University. He has published in numerous journals and books on areas including WTO law, international law, international humanitarian law and constitutional law.
