Comprised of thick cardboard pages, and with five double-page brightly coloured images from Lisa Milroy's 2007 exhibition at Ikon, this publication has a child-like quality that is reminiscent of children's picture books. This echoes the dream-like world explored in Milroy's recent work, wherein the artist created a contrived landscape in the gallery, surrounding visitors with large-scale canvases depicting images of an ornamental garden. The rolling lawns, ornamental lake, island and bridge, and trees full of pink blossom represented in the paintings allude to the five senses, a theme that is explored in depth in this publication's introductory essay. Written by Dawn Ades - a specialist in Surrealist Art, Fellow of the British Academy and trustee of Tate - this text provides an insight into Milroy's work, including a focus on the Renaissance tapestries that provided the initial inspiration for the exhibition. The publication also includes a List of Works and a selection of working drawings produced by Milroy in her development of the paintings.
