Writing Turkey examines Turkey s historical and contemporary roles in the shaping of the twenty-first century by focusing on the different ways that Turkey has represented itself, and been represented, in writing of all kinds including novels, poetry, news coverage and academic works. A range of expert authors explore the History, Politics and Cultural Identity of the Turks and address the question: Who are the Turks of today, and how have they defined and presented themselves in relation to the Ottoman past and the European future? They also look at the key issues facing Turkish cultural identity amidst the continuing debates on admitting Turkey into the European Union.
