Cinema Blue tells the story of Frankie, a young woman scarred by events in her past. Keen to make a fresh start, she rents a chambre de bonne at the top of an apartment block in Paris. There she meets the mysterious Antoine and is drawn into the murky world he inhabits - a world where othing is quite as it seems.
The city of Paris, and the world of surreal art provide the backdrop for this intense and
disturbing story. It is told from two viewpoints: Frankie, struggling to build a new life for herself, and Francesca, the woman her husband wanted her to be. As Frankie struggles to establish her own identity, Francesca haunts her dreams and her waking life.

About the Authors

Cinema Blue is Sue Rullière's first novel. Her short stories Bruised Fruit and Street Life were read on BBC Radio 4, and The Sound of Flies appeared in NW15 (British Council/Granta 2007). In a review of that collection, Caroline McGinn wrote in The Guardian: `Among the best in prose is Sue Rullière, whose humid still life conveys silent psycho-sexual pressures in a rural domestic scene between a French mother and her daughter.'
France has been a consistent influence on Sue's work. Like the protagonist of Cinema Blue, she once spent a summer living in an attic room in Paris and working in a supermarket. She also spent a year as a language assistant in Bourg-en-Bresse. She is married to a Frenchman, has taught French for many years and makes regular visits to the country which inspires her.
