Synopsis

Large format, and sumptuously produced with the highest quality paper, this exquisite coffee-table book showcases Scotland's beauty. The book is divided into eight key regions, from the Trossachs, Atholl and Breadalbane to the Lorne, Mid-Argyll and Appin. The special quality of each area springs into focus, especially the wild, rugged magnificence of the highlands throughout the seasons. Well-known vistas contrast with unusual views that will please and surprise even those familiar with the area. An introduction to the history and geography of this ancient land puts the images in superb context. Photographers will especially appreciate the appendix containing technical comments by Sampson Lloyd on his pictures.

Synopsis

Sam Lloyd is a photographer living in London but whose family has had a home in Scotland for several generations. After an introduction to the "Gaelic Landscape" there follow eight chapters, covering distinct regions, such as "Sutherland" or "Kintail to Loch Broom", each accompanied by a brief introduction by Paul Ramsay, with historical and geographical information. Each photograph's caption gives the location of the shot. At the end of the volume is a section in which thumbnail pictures of all the images are accompanied by the photographer's technical notes.
