Synopsis

Maintenance and Asset Management is a key aspect for all of those organisations who have plant, equipment and facilities, where there is a requirement for the effective maintenance of such plant and equipment, along with the associated management of the capital assets. Maintenance, Repair and Operations or Overhaul items (MROs) are closely related, as these enable the maintenance of the plant in such organisations. This MRO supply cycle includes the functions of maintenance, procurement, suppliers, stores/inventory and the production/manufacturing users/customers. All of these functional parts are connected as part of a cross-functional process. The book covers how to evaluate the current procedures, make changes to methods that will improve running times and service intervals, whilst achieving reductions in costs and inventory holding. The book covers how to understand and then implement all the essential tools for efficient and effective management of maintenance. There is also a framework for continuous improvement, along with best in class practices.

About the Author

Stuart Emmett After spending over 30 years in commercial private sector service industries, working in the UK and in Nigeria, I moved into Training. This was associated with the then Institute of Logistics and Distribution Management (now the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport). After being a Director of Training for nine years, I then choose to become a freelance independent mentor/coach, trainer and consultant. This built on my past operational and strategic experience and my particular interest in the “people issues” of management processes. Trading under the name of Learn and Change Limited, I now enjoy working on five continents, principally in Africa and the Middle East, but also in the Far East, Europe and South America. Additional to undertaking training, I also am involved with one-to-one coaching / mentoring, consulting, writing, assessing and examining for professional institutes’ qualifications. This has included being Chief Examiner on the Graduate Diploma of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and as an external university examiner for an MSc in Purchasing and Logistics. Paul Wheelhouse Paul is a Chartered Engineer who worked in the European Specialty Chemicals business with responsibilities for Engineering and Production organisations. A large part ofmy time was devoted to enhancing the performance of plant, work processes and the functioning of groups. During this time I also developed an interest in auditing contract suppliers. Since 1995, I have been totally engaged in Operations, Maintenance and Asset Management Consulting. This has involved identifying solutions for clients to enhance their return on assets through improved equipment reliability, reduced working capital and effective use of resources. My assignments have been across a range of industries located in Europe, Middle East, North America and the Far East. I am also a visiting lecturer on the Maintenance, Engineering & Asset Management MSc for Manchester University and for several years I was a Council Member for the Institute of Asset Management in the UK.
