Synopsis

It shows that Romani is a language in its own right, with its own, unique grammatical system, dialects, and particular norms of language use. Pressure from the outside world has diminished the use of the language in some areas, but generally it is a thriving language, spoken by millions of people.

Donald Kenrick is the author of Historical Dictionary of the Gypsies (Romanies) and co-author of Moving On: The Gypsies and Travellers of Britain, and the first full-length study on the Romani Holocaust. He also served as first secretary of the World Romany Congress Languages Commission.
