Who else writes like...? A readers' guide to fiction authors is now becoming recognised as a standard work to help introduce to borrowers and book purchasers novelists that are new to them. Over 1,830 authors are listed and under each name there is a short list of other authors who write in a similar style or who approach a subject in a comparable way. The book is designed to answer the constant question "I've read all the books by 'X' who else writes like that?" This new edition, the fourth under its current title has again grown in size with an increase of nearly 400 new authors some of whom replace writers whose books are no longer widely read. The book has increased by over a fifth in content as well as including additional information. Usually authors are only included when they have published three novels and when these are easily available from libraries and bookshops. Linkages between authors are based upon recommendations from librarians working in England, Scotland and Wales. For the first time many entries in this edition contain details of authors' websites.

As well as the main sequence there are separate lists of authors by genre, lists of prize-winning novelists and a guide to further reading.
