Now in its 4th edition, SPECTRUM has been developed in partnership with museum professionals nationally and internationally, and is recognised as the industry standard for collections management. It is used by more than 7,000 museums in 40 countries worldwide to improve the management, sustainability and use of their Collections. SPECTRUM is actively developed and maintained through collaboration with museum professionals and brings together the knowledge, expertise and experience of hundreds of museums, from nationals to volunteer-run societies. Those using the SPECTRUM standard ensure their institutions follows best practice in the management and use of their collections, in a way that is both proportionate to their resources and meets their public responsibilities. Editors of SPECTRUM 4.0 are Alex Dawson, Programme Manager, Standards at the Collections Trust, and Susanna Hillhouse, who both have a wealth of experience in the collections community and worked on the development of the PAS197 Code of Conduct for Collections Management as well as the SPECTRUM Standard. The latest update provides a new structure and format, making the procedures easier to use and reducing the title to a more manageable size. The 21 procedures are represented in workflow diagrams while the core information for each procedure remains unchanged.
