About this title

Review

Billed as "an inspiring and accessible guide to using roses to transform your garden into a vibrant and colourful haven", this book is sure to cover all your rose questions. It deals with every type of rose, each chapter considering a different group--wild and species roses, old garden roses, modern shrub roses, large-flowered bush roses, cluster-flowered bush roses, climbers and ramblers, miniature and patio roses. The individual complexities are discussed and explained, the colours examined in great detail and successful planting partners suggested. The whole book shows just how a complex subject such as roses can be dealt with successfully enabling any gardener to use them to create a beautiful garden with imaginative colour schemes. An illustrated plant gallery at the close of each chapter features the most colourful, fragrant, hard-working and easy-to-grow roses from that particular group and gives important information on colour, height, scent and flowering. The concluding chapter deals with all aspects of rose care and cultivation. Author Richard Ross is an award-winning freelance journalist and writer who has written books and has contributed to several newspapers and magazines. The book is beautifully and lavishly illustrated with visually stunning photographs by the renowned father and son Harpur team. Father Jerry is a leading award-winning garden photographer and he has contributed to many prestigious publications. Son Marcus was originally a publishing editor, and together they run the Harpur Garden Picture Library. Other books in the series cover perennials, climbers and bulbs. --Susan Naylor
