These tables have long been recognised as a key resource in timber specification and building. It contains section sizes and spans for solid timber members in floors, ceilings and roofs (excluding trussed rafter roofs) for dwellings. The calculations apply to buildings up to three storeys in height above ground level. These tables were originally included in the England and Wales Building Regulations, Approved Document A: Structure. Tables are included for domestic floor joists, ceiling joists and binders, and rafters and purlins supporting rafters for traditional pitched roofs. Calculations are also given for "canted" purlins supporting roof sheeting or cladding, and for flat roof joists. The tables cover softwood species and grade combinations which satisfy strength classes C16 and C24, and comply with current regulations and standards. New features in the second edition include: additional sizes, tables for trimmers and trimming joists, information on fixings and frequently asked questions are now addressed in the notes alongside the tables.
