Synopsis

This two-volume set covers image interpretation for tumor staging and follow-up. The editors present imaging findings in different tumor types, their patterns of spread and recurrence, staging considerations, and modern therapeutic approaches. The introductory chapters set the scene with general principles of imaging. The following chapters focus on primary tumor evaluation and metastatic lesions while subspecialty sections discuss pediatric and AIDS-related tumors and detail evaluation of treatment regimes. Although authoritative and comprehensive, Imaging in Oncology distills this exhaustive subject into its essentials.

Review

"Copious images are always desirable in radiology texts, especially when they display the quality that is present in this book. The best features include the editors' ability to make this voluminous topic a manageable one." --Matthew J. Synopsis

Radiologists have an increasingly important role to play in the early detection, staging and treatment of malignant disease. A detailed knowledge of both benign and malignant tumours is necesseary for accurate image interpretation, in addition to the ability to evaluate the scope and limitations of the various imaging modalities available. This text, in two volumes, provides a comprehensive account of imaging in oncology and is intended as a reference for radiologists and oncologists in practice and in training. Eight sections cover: general principles; primary tumour staging; haematological malignancy; paediatrics; metastases; treatment evaluation; effects of treatment on normal tissue; and AIDS-related tumours.;A feature of the book is the use of the TNM staging system - the standard system used by radiologists and oncologists for the accurate staging of tumours, nodules and metastases - and its basis on the protocols drawn up by the International Union Against Cancer.

All images are complemented by colour line drawings to assist in the interpretation and the diagnosis of tumours, and tables, checklists, flow-charts, algorithms and end-of-chapter summaries highlight and reference
