Sexual attraction is part of the decision making process.
When we consider any situation of choice, we base some of our response on how we feel. Sexual attraction is part of that and yet it is often not considered in risk assessments. Consequently we are often in danger of making grave mistakes in the assessment of risky behaviours. This book was conceived to challenge that. Taking the working practice of those we were aware of in the field, we asked them to commit to paper their experience and knowledge around the wide issue of sexuality.

Thus, this book aims to provide any professional, at whatever level, a chance to reconsider their practice in relating to people whose lives are brought into the public domain. It expressly focuses on the way sexuality is perceived by others rather than seeing sexuality as a problem for the individual. It is intended to challenge potentially bad practice, which might be best defined by the concept of burying one's head in the sand.

Covering: Domestic Violence in same-sex relationships and how it was part of a wider pattern of offending; transexuality and gender dysphoria; the risks posed by women; the dangers to pracitioners of working with sex-offenders; the impact of sexuality for people of colour; community notification of sex-offenders and the needs for training the book aims to be as wide as possible. It nevertheless could have been even broader and the editors would welcome comment and feedback about other examples of good practice.
