Philip Battersby, whose recent Middlesbrough and Stockton in Venture's Prestige Series is attracting much acclaim, has researched and written a lavish monograph covering the trams and motorbuses that operated in the City of Sheffield up to the absorption of the municipal undertaking into the South Yorkshire PTE in 1974. This addition to the Super Prestige series is unusually, perhaps uniquely, presented in two complementary sections: the first is from the industry insider's viewpoint, and draws heavily on the hitherto little-known photographic archive of the late Richard Moore, Sheffield City Transport's official photographer; the second part looks at the fleet from the dedicated enthusiast's angle, with many illustrations from the extraordinary John Lythgoe collection, as well as a number taken by G H F Atkins.
