The Report of the Bishops' Conference Working Party on Sacramental Initiation.
'On the Threshold' has been written for local use, whether at parish, deanery or diocesan level. It has been designed to be used especially by catechists, teachers, priests and those concerned with meeting people as they stand on the threshold seeking initiation for themselves or their children.
There are five sections to the Report:
Where do we stand? - which explores how we might read the signs of the time and look realistically at our situation.
How do we belong? - which examines the relationship between belonging to the Church and initiation.
What are we looking for? - which explores the motives of those requesting initiation and how we might respond to them.
When is the right time? - which considers the relationship between life stages, sacramental initiation and the importance of discerning the right time for the celebration of the sacraments.
What about our catechesis? - which looks at how we might engage in catechesis both before initiation and afterwards. In order to help local parishes explore the implications for their own life, material for reflection is included within the text.
