There are a mixture of paper-based tasks and "hands-on" activities. Symbols are used to indicate different types of activities: what to do, think and do, read, and investigate. By encouraging written responses the sheets also aim to develop children's writing skills. The worksheets in the book overlap and several statements of the National Curriculum are covered several times in a number of different ways. This is so that the worksheets can be used to repeat work on particular concepts to reinforce learning.
