Jack Ketchum is the pseudonym for a former actor, teacher, literary agent, lumber salesman, and soda jerk. He is also a former flower child and baby boomer who figures that in 1956 Elvis, dinosaurs and horror probably saved his life. His first novel, OFF SEASON, an updating of the Sawney Beane story, prompted the Village Voice to publicly scold its publisher in print for publishing violent pornography. He has always wondered what they would think of THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. His short story THE BOX won a 1994 Bram Stoker Award from HWA and he has written several novels, the latest of which, OFF SEASON, OFFSPRING, THE LOST, JOYRIDE, STRANGLEHOLD. RED, and a short story collection PEACEABLE KINGDOM.
Jack Ketchum s original novel of cannibalism in Maine, Off Season, was first met with a lot of controversy when it was originally released in 1980. However sales of over 250,000 mass market editions made this first time novelist a major force in the horror and suspense genres. Now Offspring, the sequel to Off Season, is being released in a signed limited hardcover edition. Just when you thought the horror of Off Season was vanquished in that first novel, The Family, lives on.. years later continuing terrorizing the coast of Maine. And their zest for life, and yours, continues on the family tradition.
