Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Hardback. 4to. VG+ copy including the lucent white outer shell case (by Philip Starck) in excellent shape. Book shows a slight reading crease on the spine, and some slight ,almost inevitable, indentation marks where the case holds the book in place. Numbered limited edition of 6,000, of which this is no. 656. About 90 un-numbered stiff card pages, all edges gilt, fully illustrated with colour photos, oversized format in white patterned stiff card covers. Illustrations of passages from the Bible, as interpreted by contemporary artists inc Tillmans. Visionaire state "Our millennium issue: Òthe greatest story ever told" retold in images by modern-day artists and photographers. The intent was to make an issue that was visually provocative but not blasphemous or gratuitously shocking. We worked closely with Dr. Royal Rhodes, professor of religion at Kenyon College, who helped us excerpt passages from the King James Bible. Wolfgang Tillmans contributed the Crucifixion; Andreas GurskyÕs image of a rave becomes the Exodus; Mary Ellen Mark envisions a modern day Mary and Joseph; and Steven Meisel imagines the Apocalypse in a series of eerily foreboding fashion images inspired by the painter Odd Nerdrum.
