Why I wrote this book.
Fritz was my Great Grandfather. He won the Medal of Honor for rescuing Col. James Beaver, who later became Governor of Pennsylvania, during the battle of Reams Station, VA in 1864. The research for this book gave me a growing appreciation for the tremendous sacrifice soldiers on both sides made during the Civil War. It made me want to share his story.
