Animal Acrostics is a celebration of animals through word play. Often humorous, always fun, these animal poems combine fact and fancy in an acrostic: the first letters of the poem's lines, when combined, spell out the creature's name. For example, "Large Eyes. Madagascar. Unmistakable Ringtail" spells Lemur. "Silk Wings, Aflutter, Looping Lightly On Wind: Tireless Acrobat In Lace" spells Swallowtail. Part riddle, these playful verses depict the distinctive qualities of animals: their unique features, unusual behaviors, special habitats.
Animal Acrostics, fully illustrated by Michael Maydak, pays tribute to more than 50 animals in five habitats. The book also includes information on each animal, a glossary of terms, and a brief afterward on the history and writing of acrostics.
