Synopsis
Dog Tags of Courage tells the story of four thousand forgotten war heroes. Few Americans are aware of the invaluable service given by scout dogs in the Vietnam War, or know that their heroism saved thousands of lives. John Burnam delivers a remarkable first-hand account of these valiant German shepherds and their handlers, the ten thousand young combat infantrymen who loved and cared for them, literally carrying their food and water into battle. Routinely braving danger, these intelligent, adaptable scout dogs located injured GIs, searched out Vietcong weapons caches and deadly booby traps, and alertly thwarted enemy attacks and ambushes. Between hazardous missions, the dogs were loving, playful friends who shared the lives of their human teammates.
