Synopsis
This book by one of Australia's foremost food commentators sets out to dispel, in no uncertain terms, the existence of an Australian culinary cringe. Cherry believes that the current debate about cultural identity has overlooked the development of Australia's culinary habits and that Australian food does have a style quite distinct from its European and American cousins. Topics covered include the Asianization of the Australian Palate, the mania for Thai food, the bliss point factor (the gustatory equivalent of the G-spot), cooking oil, "foodoceuticals", diet and criminality, exotic species, sexism in restaurants, the social significance of being able to cook, table manners, kangaroo consumption and regionalism.

About the Author
Cherry Ripe is Australia's most awarded food writer. Her weekly food column has appeared in the 'Weekend Australian' since 1990 and she is frequently invited to give papers at international food conferences. She is also a regular contributor to Abc Radio National's 'Food Program'.
