What would you give to make decisions with confidence--whether it's what present to buy a friend or what to do about your relationship--because you trust your own judgement and have a clear idea of where you are going in life? A sense of purpose, even? The answer is to stop looking "out there" for solutions and develop what we all have already, an inner voice or intuitive "sixth sense" according to author Patricia Einstein who has spent years as an intuitive counsellor.

In case you think that accessing inner knowledge sounds a bit hippy, the book reassuringly refers to several scientific studies and research supporting the case. Scientists not only confirm that the "hunch" exists but are trying to study it. There's also a lot of evidence that following your instincts can lead to great success in life. "A recent study has shown that CEOs of major companies use their intuition in 80% of their decisions so why not you?" asks Einstein. And this book is nothing if not a practical guide to show you how. The vast majority is devoted to a series of exercises to nurture awareness, no less than 57 of them! These range from visualisation, positive affirmations and meditations to physical awareness and word games. You're not expected to do all of them but pick the ones that work.

The intention is to reawaken a (right brain) sense that in many of us is hampered by Western education and society. Intuition is a rich inner resource that guides us through when logic, social conditioning and friendly advice leave us feeling bewildered and unsure. Trusting yourself, says Einstein, is a gift that can lead to better relationships, a more fulfilling career, unlock creativity and even prosperity. --Cindy Symons
