Synopsis

"Understanding and Researching Scripts" is intended to guide the reader through the fascinating process of researching, analysing and interpreting a play from the very first reading, through to performance. Aimed at practising and would-be actors and directors, whether amateur or professional, its intention is not to study a script from a purely academic viewpoint, but rather to enable a practical approach to taking a drama text from page to stage. The features include: learn how to research a text thoroughly; gain confidence in your ability to analyse a script truthfully; develop ideas for innovative interpretation from a first reading; realize the full potential of your dramatic skills; learn about the unique 'three way process' of drama; work in harmony with the playwright and fellow performers; understand the creative and supportive relationship between actors and directors; understand your character and be able to portray it with confidence and believability; understand Shakespeare easily; and practice your skills using example and exercises.
