Rough Guide Cyprus was thorougly updated in 1998, with the current edition out mid-1999. Sarcasm there is not, dry humour however you will find in abundance. Moreover, I do not shrink from describing some of the less savoury aspects of tourism on Cyprus, as is the Rough Guide habit. There is no other guide which even-handedly addresses the awkward division of the island. I take pride in the fact that many diplomats, journalists, businessmen, etc use my guide as a reference as well as a travel guide. I have in fact read most of the background books recommended in the book list cover to cover. On the ground, the book is pitched primarily at folks on a one-to-three week package with a car — the most popular and sensible strategy for visiting either side of Cyprus.
