Synopsis
Ravensworth tells of one family's varied fortunes through four generations, and of Ravensworth Towers, the Cotswold country estate that is their home. When Emily Ravensworth and her three grandchildren return to their beloved family home in the late 1950s, they are shocked to find it decaying and empty, after falling into disuse when it was vacated after the war. A quest to restore the Towers to its former glories and convert it to a Country House Hotel begins. The day of the arrival of Emily's long-lost sister-in-law Maude triggers their reminiscences, and we follow them through two World Wars, through the family's tribulations, triumphs and secrets. Both a beautifully crafted picture of countryside life, and an astutely observed portrayal of the ups and downs of familial relationships, Ravensworth offers a fine sense of past and tradition, but balanced against a positive message of adaptation to change.
